Recently, reports indicate that Samsung plans to renegotiate NAND flash memory prices with key clients in the mobile, PC, and server sectors during this month and the next, aiming for a 15~20% price increase.
After more than a year of oversupply, the selling price of Samsung's NAND flash memory was once equal to the cost, hence the plan to negotiate with major customers to bring prices back to a reasonable level.
Data from research firm TrendForce shows that in the fourth quarter of 2023, global NAND Flash industry revenue reached $11.49 billion, a 24.5% increase from the previous quarter. This growth was mainly due to a recovery in end-market demand spurred by year-end promotions, as well as an expansion in the parts market orders, resulting in a significant year-on-year increase in storage chip shipments. Samsung continued to maintain its leadership position with NAND revenues of $4.2 billion in Q4 2023, a substantial 44.8% year-on-year increase, which was also the highest growth among manufacturers. The average selling price of Samsung's NAND products increased by 12% quarter-over-quarter.
The General Manager of Silicon Motion also stated that the recovery of the memory market that began in the second half of 2023 will continue into 2024, and may even extend into the first half of 2025. Currently, the prices for NAND Flash for the second quarter have all been negotiated, with an expected increase of 20%.
